Elvera (Vera) Dacey
- Lotus Volunteer
Once upon
a time a long long time ago I was born. I know I was born because
I am here. My parents were immigrants from Italy. My mother died when
I was five years of age and my father followed just two and a half years
later. I lived with several relatives here in CT with my uncle’s
home in Oakville as home base. My early years offered nothing extraordinary
except that like the young I had many dreams of a wonderful life ahead
for me, which was my reason for surviving. (Still dreaming)
I married
at the age of twenty, brought two children into this world, a daughter
Kathleen and a son William. We were married forty-one years at the time
of my husband’s death from that cruel disease of cancer. Although
we were not a Ozzie and Harriet we were quite happily married despite
all the problems we faced. I have four grandsons; three are living in
CA and one here in Waterbury.
I went into LPN training when my children were of school age and received
my license in 1960 working at Bristol Hospital: Waterbury hospital and
various covalences’ homes; seventeen years as a private scrub nurse
to Dr Leon Zucker at the Conn. Eye Center and seventeen more years for
Urology Specialists before retiring. I started off working for Dr Joseph
Antoci as his office manager and followed him when he merged with Urology
Specialists. I eventually became their triage nurse retiring three years
ago. I received the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing in May
of 2001.
I am a firm believer in alternative medicine after years of working in
the world of scientific, evidence-based medicine. I believe without a
doubt that once all practioners accept that they are treating body; mind
and spirit then and then only will we have true healing and that Lotus
will open many doors to such healing
